MOVIE PREMIERS

I attended two movie preview screenings this week.

The first is Rain's second foray into Hollywood film industry. This time around he gets to be the lead actor for another Wachowski brothers film "Ninja Assassin".

Not too bad for Rain (he has much better command of English than Jackie Chan) even though his script lines are minimal. Lots of slicing and dicing and the supporting actors are the CGI BLOOD. Even in darkness, you can see the blood clearly and audiences can see the baddies being sliced in 2. Surprisingly, I saw some parents bringing kids (below 7 years) to the preview. Hmmm....what were they thinking?
Rating for Ninja Assassin: 3 out of 5 stars (the fight sequences saved the movie).

The other preview screening I attended was the much anticipated Twilight saga : New Moon. Honestly I have no idea it was such a draggy love story. I told a friend who invited me for the premier, why don't they just get it over and done with or just go get a room. Girl loves vampire, vampire leaves girl (to protect her), girl pines and have nightmares, illusions etc. For God's sakes, the acting are nothing to shout about. I am sure this will be a blockbuster with the many girly gushes from the audience (media and artistes included). After the movie concluded, there claps in the audience!

The CGI wolves were a major dissapoinment. Narnia can outdo that anytime. Saving grace are the fluid CGI vampire movements and those freaky vampire eyes....cool! And what's with Robert Pattinson's role as Edward Cullen? He is like having a mid life crisis. Too posey and wooden. My wooden cupboard has more character than him.

I know he is a vampire and he is supposed to look pale but he looks like a faggot who smoked one too many ciggies before the shoot. The other supporting actors (vampires) does not look as sickly as he does. And Bella...sometimes I just wished I could shoot her. Every screen time she just exudes that "Kill me, Edward! I want to be a vampire to be with you!" demeanour. Oh! Get a life lady...and she's still a teenager.

Rating for this movie: 3 out of 5 (and that's NOT because acting).

2012 MOVIE PREVIEW AT GSC MIDVALLEY

I attended Mix FM's preview screening of the most anticipated disaster movie this Fall: 2012. Not a bad movie. I would rate it 4 out of 5....minus 1 for a tad draggy (2 hours 38 minutes).
Cinema goers have been inundated with multiple disaster movies that spelt "disaster" or are we too jaded with one too many of these movies?

I have always been a sucker for disaster movies but most of them lacks the punch. I am talking about if you want to destroy the world or create mayhem, do it to the maximum and do not hold back. And most of these movies falls incredibly short and is very lacklustre in this category. And if one has not noticed, most movies only concentrate on 1 particular country (e.g. USA).
However, 2012 , hits home with its grittiness and "if you want to destroy, destroy 'em all!" theory with a touch of humor thrown in here and there for good measure.
The whole world collapses and I love it! Not an inch of the Earth is spared! I am not being callous, hey, it is A Hollywood disaster movie...it should be top rated and be over the top. However, in the midst of all the chaos and catastrophe, there is always hope.
I shall not divulge more.
This movie has to be enjoyed in the theatre for maximum cinematic effect and experience (not even a 40 inch plasma TV can duplicate that).
Before the movie commenced, there was a question and answer session by 2 of Mix FM announcers (Sham and Roshen) whereby, 3 lucky winners will get to grab some "money cannot buy" movie merchandise.
I, being the ever "kiasu" in more ways than other, abled to win one of the goodies. The goodies
are a watch specially made for 2012 (like those limited edition Swatch watch), a felt-tip pen, a key chain...all packed in a transparent green drawstring "kind of a" time capsule bag.

FRIDAY UPDATES

I just received a letter from CIMB confirming my winning on Lite FM's Secret Sound contest. However, it will take 4-6 weeks for the cheque to arrive. On a positive note, it will still arrive and it's MINE...hee hee!

Also received some in season tickets for the "Inglourious Basterds".
