RAMADHAN BUFFET "KAMPUNG STYLE" AT MAYTOWER HOTEL & SERVICED RESIDENCES 2011

It is just a couple of days away from the holy month of Ramadhan whereby Muslims fast approximately 14 hours a day and during the breaking of fast, the smell of smoky lemang, aromatic spices from the rendang and of course all the Ramadhan bazaars (my favourite is still located in the Kerinchi area).

During this time, hotels and restaurants take the opportunity to offer breaking of fast "buka puasa" buffet spreads.

I was invited to the Maytower Hotel & Serviced Residences Ramadhan Berbuka Puasa with a Kampung Style" theme at their La Maison Restaurant. The buffet is priced at RM75++ per adult while children (4-12 years old) and senior citizens (55 years and above) enjoy a 50% discount. In addition to this, the hotel is making an exclusive 50% discount promotion for all diners on the first and last three days of Ramadhan.

I also met fellow bloggers Max Lim and Rebecca Saw. So we ate, chatted, criticised and brainstorm on what spread to improve and which spread oozes with goodness.

A special appreciation acknowledgement to Ms Tan May Lee (Area E-Commerce Manager) of Kosmopolito Hotels International and Ms Wong Siew Peng (Executive Assistant Manager) of Maytower for being such gracious hostesses with the mostest!

At first sight, I fell in love with the decor.

The customary buka puasa "appetizer", buah Kurma (dates)

Pictures of the varied spread which include the "Umai" which is a popular kerabu dish in Sarawak. The spread consists of variety of delicacies and dishes from Kerabu Sambal Udang with Epal Hijau, Kerabu Kacang Botol dengan Daging Ayam, Sup Tulang Lembu dengan Kentang, Ayam Masak Merah Bermadu, Udang Galah Panggang dengan Kuah Percik, Kambing Masak Kicap dengan Lada Hitam, Rendang Ayam and Rendang Lembu and many many more.

The 'gentle giant", guardian to the barbeque lamb. The lamb is a must try. The meat is so tender and flavourful.

The chef making the delicious murtabak.

Below are pictures of the desserts. Desserts come in the form of local cakes and Malay delicacies such as Bubur Kacang Hijau, Bumbleberry Tiramisu, bubur durian, Malay and Nyonya kuih, Sago Gula Melaka, Pineapple Strudel with Vanilla sauce and fresh fruits.

A very nice piece of table decoration I had to take a close up picture of.

To make all this happen is the Executive Chef, Encik Khairil Azar

My conclusion on the buffet spread: 8.5/10 - Some of my favourites are the Rendang. It is to die for. According to the Executive Chef, it is made from kampung chicken. The chicken (I'm still dreaming of it) is marinated with the exact spices and cooked with adequate ingredients especially the santan (coconut milk). Other notable foods on the buffet table are the barbeque stingray, lamb, satay and ulams. There is a lack in the dessert section whereby we have given some constructive feedback to the Executive Chef for improvement before the commencement of the buffet during Ramadhan. I am sure it'll 'touch base".  Overall it was a good experience with good food and good company.

Visitors to this blog will get 25% discount off the RM75++ price only when making a reservation via the link http://www.maytower.com.my/kl/ramadan-booking.php
